Welcome to the web page of the Class of 1956 of Ulysses S Grant High School, Portland OR USA. If we may, modestly, say so,our class is probably the most connected and active one to have graced the hallowed halls of the pre-eminent high school in the country. During the decade of the 1950s -- the "Happy Days" years -- Grant was named the best in the United States by Pageant Magazine, March 1954. As history shows, Grant High produced an astronaut, a presidential cabinet member, a U.S. senator, several Hollywood and Broadway performers, an all-American quarterback, and numerous other luminaries, in the 1950s. To be sure, while Grant produced an unusual number of doctors, lawyers, judges, etc., there was also the proverbial beggarman and even a few thiefs. The truth is, most of Grant's graduates got a good education in a happy surrounding in a comfortable era. From this background, most grads went on to pursue average, but productive lives. Not bad for a public high school! And today, we share a million happy memories.

Our ever-current class members have gone on-line, as indicated by our burgeoning e-mail list, now totaling in excess of 200 names. But that doesn't mean things are static. E-mail addresses are as fluid their snail mail counterparts, so constant updating is required.

Do your part: Let us know if you have recently gone on-line, changed your internet service provider (ISP), or know of a classmate who is new on-line or made any changes. "STONE AGE" PICTURES STILL WANTED E-MAIL THEM. SNAIL MAIL THEM. Just get your pics here anyway you can. Don't be shy. Break out those heretofore unseen high school pictures of you, your classmates, school activities, or sporting events. This is your great opportunity to post that snapshot you thought should have been in the Memoirs. Almost all will be posted, with only "minor" exceptions.
